Montreal Canadiens declined Dylan Cozens trade offer
The Montreal Canadiens recently explored the possibility of trading for Dylan Cozens from the Buffalo Sabres. However, the Sabres' request was too high for Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes. This led to a quick rejection from Montreal. According to reports, the Sabres wanted either Cole Caufield or Juraj Slafkovsky in return. The Canadiens were not willing to give up either player. Both Caufield and Slafkovsky are considered key parts of the team's future, especially as the Canadiens aim for a playoff spot. Caufield is having a strong season, with 61 points in 66 games, already surpassing his previous best. He has scored 33 goals this season, more than Cozens’ career high. Meanwhile, Slafkovsky is still developing but had a solid season last year. The Sabres were looking for an immediate impact player and did not want draft picks or prospects. Their demand for a star player from Montreal was seen as unrealistic. Ultimately, the Canadiens made the right choice in deciding to keep their key players rather than pursue the trade. Cozens is a good player but may not guarantee the same production in Montreal, especially given his past performance.
