Montreal's light-rail train network, REM, faced another outage during the busy morning rush on Tuesday. This problem came just a day after the network stopped offering free rides to passengers. The breakdown was announced shortly after 7 a.m. REM posted on social media that "a technical issue" caused the service interruption. The affected route was between the Gare Centrale station in downtown Montreal and the last stop on the South Shore, Panama station. At the time of the outage, REM said it was uncertain when service would resume and that shuttle buses would be provided. About 30 minutes later, REM updated the status of the service. They informed passengers that trains would run between the South Shore stations and the Île-des-Sœurs station. However, riders would need to get off there to continue their journey toward downtown Montreal. For the past three weeks, riders enjoyed free trips on the REM during limited hours. This week, the network returned to regular fares. Service hours are now set from Monday to Friday, running from 5:30 a.m. to around 8:40 p.m. Shuttle bus service is available at night after the last train.
