Moor fire near Marsden spreads toward Greater Manchester
Dozens of firefighters are battling a large fire on the moors that has spread into Greater Manchester. The blaze started near March Haigh Reservoir in Marsden, West Yorkshire, earlier today. The fire front is reported to be over 1.5 kilometers wide. By mid-afternoon, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service indicated the fire was moving towards Greater Manchester. Flames have been reaching heights of more than 1.5 meters. By evening, the fire had expanded to cover around three square miles near the New Year's Bridge reservoir in Denshaw, Oldham. Fire crews from Greater Manchester joined the fight after putting out another fire near Dovestone reservoir. They are currently leading the operation with support from West Yorkshire firefighters. A spokesperson stated that the fire is challenging due to high winds, and they are working hard to control it. Authorities have closed the A640 New Hey Road between Denshaw and Huddersfield because of fire service activities. People are advised to stay clear of the area. Updates on the situation will be provided as more information comes in.
