Morocco anticipates tourist surge due to Spain's protests
A lesser-known country just four hours from the UK is expected to attract many tourists in 2025. This comes as some popular tourist spots, like Spain, face growing anti-tourist protests. Activists in Spain have called for tourists to "go home," leading many travelers to consider other destinations. Travel agent Michelle Davison suggests alternatives such as Turkey and Morocco. She notes that these countries offer affordable, sunny vacation options. Last year, Morocco welcomed 17.4 million visitors, while Spain attracted 94 million. Travelers can fly directly to Morocco’s cities like Marrakesh and Agadir from various UK airports. Morocco's accommodations are also generally cheaper than those in Spain or Italy. For example, a week's stay in Marrakesh can cost around £434 for two people. In Agadir, a five-star all-inclusive hotel could be £1,352 for the same period. While Morocco grows in popularity, there are safety concerns. The UK government warns of a potential threat from terrorist groups. Tourists are advised to stay alert, especially in crowded areas. The Foreign Office also reminds travelers that same-sex relationships are illegal in Morocco and public displays of affection can lead to legal issues. For those seeking sunny escapes with fewer crowds, Morocco and Turkey may be worth considering as alternative holiday destinations.
