Mother admits to killing daughter; claims mental illness
A woman is on trial for the death of her two-year-old daughter in Hemel Hempstead. Shilyrand Charigwati, 30, has admitted to killing her daughter Roselyn. However, she denies murder, claiming that she was suffering from mental illness at the time. Charigwati was arrested after Roselyn was found injured at their home in April 2024. The child was taken to the hospital but unfortunately died shortly after arrival. The judge, Mrs. Justice Heather Williams, described the situation as very distressing and stressed the importance of a fair trial. During the trial at Luton Crown Court, jurors will hear from psychiatrists about Charigwati's state of mind when the incident occurred. The trial is expected to last around four weeks. The prosecution will present its evidence starting Tuesday.
