A mother and her 15-year-old son won a year's supply of chicken burgers after waiting in line at Popeyes. The popular Louisiana chicken chain opened its third restaurant in Merseyside today. Joanne Briggs, 50, and her son Sam were the first in line. They arrived at 8 a.m., thinking the restaurant would open at 9 a.m. They soon learned the opening was delayed until 11 a.m. Instead of leaving, they decided to wait and made the best of it. Joanne, from Kirkby, said, "We were like, 'In for a penny in for a pound. We've been here an hour, what's two more?'" The pair entertained themselves while waiting. Joanne joked that they engaged in hopscotch on the pavement. The giveaway was part of the restaurant's grand opening celebrations. The first three customers received three burgers each week for a year. While Joanne is excited, she also joked about getting tired of burgers quickly and plans to share with friends and family. Sam described the photo opportunity as "awkward," but he agreed that the burgers are "really good." Tom Crowley, the CEO of Popeyes UK, mentioned the new Kirkby location aims to provide flavorful food and a welcoming environment. The breakfast menu will start on March 18 at 8 a.m.
