Mother finds son dead through home security footage
A Scottish mother, Maryann Taylor, discovered her son had died while she was on holiday in the Dominican Republic. The incident happened last September when she checked her home security cameras to see her dogs. Maryann noticed her dogs acting strangely and asked a friend of her son, Craig, to check on him. Tragically, Craig, who was about to turn 31, was found dead in the kitchen after being alone for several hours. Police were called to the scene. Since the loss of her son, Maryann has struggled with her mental health and memories of that day. She navigates her home carefully, passing the room where Craig died daily, dealing with flashbacks and distress. Maryann is also seeking a new home that accommodates her needs. She is disabled and lives with a heart condition and arthritis. She has requested help from Edinburgh Council to find a suitable place with space for her dogs and a visit from her daughter and carer. However, she feels overwhelmed by the responses she has received. Her local MSP, Alex Cole-Hamilton, is assisting her in her search for a better housing solution. He noted that her case is one of the most tragic he has encountered. Maryann’s doctor has expressed concerns about her deteriorating mental health since her son's death. Edinburgh Council has acknowledged Maryann's situation and is working with her, but she feels unsupported. "I’m so tired of fighting," she said, reflecting on the emotional burden she carries after losing her son.
