Mother in Davao City reacts to Duterte's arrest

Clarita Alia, a mother from Davao City, expressed deep emotion upon learning of former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest on March 11. She believes Duterte is responsible for the deaths of her four sons, allegedly killed by the Davao Death Squad. Alia's sons were killed between 2001 and 2007, before the Philippines joined the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC's case against Duterte focuses on 43 killings, but none of Alia's sons are included in this investigation. Despite her joy over Duterte's arrest, Alia feels pain that her sons' cases were not recognized. She was one of the first to speak out against the killings and has long sought justice for her family.
