Mother injured protecting son; son killed in attack

A mother was stabbed while trying to save her son during a violent attack in Ector County on Tuesday. The incident happened on West 87th Street around 9 a.m. Authorities arrived to find 29-year-old Benjamin Scott Ryan dead in the driveway. His mother, 59, was also severely injured with multiple stab wounds. The Ector County Sheriff's Office reports that Benjamin Ryan and 30-year-old Zackery Dewain Hunt had an argument that escalated into physical violence. During the incident, Ryan's mother intervened with a firearm but was attacked by Hunt, who then fled the scene after taking the gun. Hunt has been arrested on multiple charges, including murder and attempted capital murder. He is being held on a total bond of $1,524,000. Another man, 33-year-old Wayne Utah King, was arrested for allegedly threatening Hunt with a gun. King was later released on a $25,000 bond.
