Mount Kanlaon erupts 13 times as alert level remains high in the Philippines
Mount Kanlaon erupted 13 times on Thursday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). The volcano remains at Alert Level 3, indicating a heightened risk of explosive eruptions. The eruptions produced ash plumes and significant sulfur dioxide emissions, averaging nearly 4,000 tons per day. Seven volcanic earthquakes were also recorded, prompting PHIVOLCS to advise residents within six kilometers to evacuate. As of Friday, over 11,000 families have been affected by the recent eruptions, with many seeking shelter in evacuation centers. The government is monitoring the situation closely, conducting aerial surveys to assess potential hazards.
