Mount Pleasant police arrested five drivers for DUI
The Mount Pleasant Police Department arrested five drivers for DUI over the weekend of March 21-23. This was part of a focused effort to combat drunk driving in the area. One notable arrest involved a 38-year-old woman. She was stopped after causing a scene with a neighbor and was suspected of animal abuse. Police tried to pull her over when she drove away, but she refused to cooperate. The officers found her in a locked SUV with her two dogs. She did not roll down her window or provide identification. After several attempts to get her to exit the vehicle, police had to break the glass to get inside. The woman was argumentative and showed signs of being intoxicated, such as slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. Officers found liquor bottles and $620 in cash during a search of her vehicle. She faces charges for DUI, resisting arrest, and possessing open containers. Other DUI arrests from the weekend took place at various locations, including two spots on March 22 and another at Lowe's on March 23.
