MS-13 poses a significant threat in Long Island

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney highlighted the federal government's role in combating MS-13, a violent gang known for its brutal tactics. He noted that the gang's culture prioritizes violence and murder for gaining respect and status. MS-13, formed by Salvadoran immigrants in the late 1980s, has established a strong presence in Long Island, peaking in 2015. The gang operates under strict rules, including a death sentence for members who cooperate with police or disrespect the gang. In contrast, the newer Tren de Aragua gang focuses on drug and human trafficking rather than violence. Both gangs have been designated as foreign terrorist organizations, prompting federal actions against illegal immigration and gang activities.
