Magadh University (MU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Shankaracharya Mutt in Bodh Gaya. This agreement aims to promote research on the significance of Bodh Gaya in fostering world peace. At the signing event, MU’s vice-chancellor, Shashi Pratap Shahi, announced plans for a national seminar. This seminar will focus on the historical importance of the Shankaracharya Mutt. The vice-chancellor encouraged university researchers to explore Bodh Gaya’s contributions to peace and brotherhood. The Shankaracharya Mutt has a historical connection to the university. The mutt's former leader donated about 300 acres of land for what is now the MU campus. MU registrar, Bipin Kumar, mentioned that the university could assist in managing the mutt, should they agree, as both institutions are closely linked. According to the MoU, MU’s researchers and teachers from the history, philosophy, and archaeology departments will collaborate with the mutt. They will study and publish manuscripts from the mutt's library. This initiative aims to share the rich tradition and history of Bodh Gaya with a global audience.
