Muckamore Abbey Inquiry seeks patient resettlement experiences
The Muckamore Abbey Hospital Inquiry panel is asking for information from people involved in the hospital's patient resettlement process. This inquiry is looking into serious allegations of abuse at the hospital, which is considered the largest adult safeguarding case in the UK. The hospital, located in Antrim, aims to move its remaining patients to suitable homes in the community. This resettlement process has been challenging, and the panel needs more insights to help with its final report. The panel is particularly interested in hearing from patients, relatives, and carers who have experienced resettlement since June 14, 2021. They welcome input from anyone, even if they have not contributed to the inquiry previously. People can share their experiences in various ways, including small group sessions, personal presentations in early June, or by submitting written notes. The deadline to submit information is April 25, and interested individuals can do so through the inquiry's website. The inquiry started in June 2022, following a police investigation that began in 2017 over allegations of mistreatment at the hospital. After hearing testimony from 181 witnesses over 120 days, the inquiry is expected to publish its findings later this year.
