Mulaney's Netflix series raises concerns from executives
John Mulaney recently discussed his new Netflix series, Everybody's Live, and shared that the streaming service had some worries about the show before it premiered. In an interview with Vulture, Mulaney, 42, recounted a call with a Netflix executive who expressed doubts about the lineup of guests for the first episode. The show featured notable guests, including Fred Armisen and Joan Baez. However, the executive felt these choices might not generate enough excitement. Mulaney noted that the executive said, "This is not the show we sold." He found it amusing, saying it was clear they did not fully understand the content of the show. Despite concerns, Mulaney confidently said that the show has his distinctive humor, filled with niche references. He joked about how Netflix might have mistakenly thought the series was a true-crime documentary due to his appearance. Mulaney also shared personal stories about his life with his wife Olivia Munn, who has talked about her battle with breast cancer. The premiere included sketches and guests answering viewer calls about money. Mulaney admitted the show is not inherently “good,” but he believes it is entertaining in its own way. The second episode will feature more celebrity guest appearances and musical performances, continuing to air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on Netflix.
