Multiple NHL coaches face job uncertainty this summer
Several NHL teams are likely to make coaching changes this summer, with four coaches in particular facing uncertainty about their jobs. First is Andrew Brunette of the Nashville Predators. The team has struggled this season with a disappointing record. As Nashville sits near the bottom of the Western Conference, Brunette’s position may be at risk. If management decides to make roster changes, they might start with the coach. Next is Lindy Ruff from the Buffalo Sabres. Despite a long history with the team, Ruff has not been able to improve their performance this season. The Sabres have the worst record in the Eastern Conference. If the team fires their general manager, a new leader might want to hire a different coach, making Ruff’s future uncertain. Joe Sacco, interim coach for the Boston Bruins, is also on the chopping block. After a season filled with disappointment, following the firing of Jim Montgomery, Sacco has not turned the team's fortunes around. It is likely the Bruins will look for a fresh start with a new coach once the season ends. Finally, Mike Sullivan of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been with the team since 2015, leading them to two Stanley Cup victories. However, the Penguins have failed to reach the playoffs for the past three seasons. It may be time for both Sullivan and the team to move in different directions. As the end of the NHL season approaches, changes are expected among coaching staff for several teams.
