Mum fears for life as ex transferred to open prison
A mother of two was brutally attacked by her former partner, who gouged her eyes out while her sons slept nearby. Tina Nash, 44, suffered this horrific violence in April 2011 when Shane Jenkin held her hostage for 12 hours. During the attack, she also experienced strangulation and a broken nose. Jenkin, 45, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of six years in 2012 for grievous bodily harm. Recently, Nash expressed fear for her safety after learning that Jenkin has been moved to an open prison. Although his requests for parole were denied six times, he is now eligible to leave for short periods for work or family visits. Ms. Nash worries for herself and other women, stating that she believes Jenkin has not forgotten about her and might seek revenge. Nash recounted their relationship, explaining it started well but quickly became abusive. She described the night of the attack, where Jenkin wrapped her in a blanket and attacked her. She recalled the shocking moment she realized she was blind. After the attack, she underwent multiple surgeries but was unable to regain her sight and now has prosthetic eyes. Jenkin, who is quite large, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court and initially placed in a secure mental health unit. Ms. Nash continues to cope with the trauma of her experience and the uncertainty regarding her safety.
