Mumbai court dismisses Tanushree Dutta's #MeToo case
Ganesh Acharya has expressed relief after a Mumbai court dismissed Tanushree Dutta's #MeToo case against him and actor Nana Patekar. The court stated that there was a lack of evidence and that too much time had passed since the incident. This ruling brings closure to an incident that took place in 2008 during the filming of "Horn Ok Pleassss." In an interview with India Today, Acharya reacted to the dismissal, questioning the allegations made by Dutta. He emphasized that he had always been truthful and stated, "I got a clean chit." He found the accusations distressing and did not understand why they were made. He quoted the saying "Sachchai Chhup Nahin Sakti," meaning truth cannot be hidden. The magistrate court also rejected Dutta's protest against the closure of her case. The police had previously labeled her complaint as "malicious and false" due to insufficient evidence. They pointed out that the case was too old, having begun in 2008. After the court’s decision, the lawyer representing Acharya and Patekar released a statement declaring that justice had been served. Dutta had been a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement in India, and she accused Patekar, Acharya, and others of harassment during the film shoot, which ultimately led her to leave the industry.
