Mumbai's BEST buses to feature live tracking soon

Mumbai’s BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) is launching a new partnership with Google Maps to enhance commuter experience. This service will allow passengers to track BEST buses in real-time, making it easier to plan their travels. The transport authority aims to reduce bus waiting times significantly. Currently, passengers may wait between 35 to 45 minutes for a bus. The goal is to bring that down to just 15 to 20 minutes. This change is expected to provide more frequent and reliable bus services across the city. Real-time tracking is set to become available within a month. BEST General Manager SVR Srinivas mentioned that discussions with Google have been productive and the new feature will soon be public. How will it work? Commuters will enter their starting location and destination in Google Maps. The app will then suggest the fastest routes based on real-time GPS data. It will include options for BEST buses, metro, local trains, auto-rickshaws, and taxis, creating a more connected travel experience. Passengers will also receive live updates about bus arrivals, potential delays, and any changes to routes. This initiative aims to improve Mumbai’s public transport system and make daily commuting easier for residents.
