Munster babysitter acquitted; neglect charge leads to hung jury
A Lake County jury acquitted Madyson Moyer, a former babysitter from Munster, of battery in a shaken baby case after over 15 hours of deliberation. The jury could not reach a decision on a neglect charge, resulting in a hung jury. Moyer, 30, will return home while a status hearing for the neglect charge is set for April. Prosecutors argued she was the only adult present when the child showed symptoms, while her lawyer claimed she did not harm the boy. The 4-month-old boy suffered serious injuries, including brain bleeding, and now has lasting effects. Moyer faced two felony charges, each carrying a potential 3-16 year prison sentence.
