Murder suspect shoots at cops during escape attempt

A murder suspect was arrested in Haryana after a dramatic attempt to escape while being taken to the crime scene. The suspect, Tekchand, has been linked to the murder of a liquor businessman, Dinesh Yadav, last week. On Friday night, police were escorting Tekchand in Karnal to find a mobile phone believed to be connected to the crime. Instead of complying, he pulled out a gun and shot at the officers, injuring assistant sub-inspector Harish. Police returned fire, hitting Tekchand in the knee and capturing him. He was later taken to the hospital. Authorities recovered a pistol and five cartridges at the scene. The police say Tekchand had previously confessed to hiding the mobile phone, which they believe could be helpful for the investigation. The murder occurred on March 18 when Tekchand and another suspect opened fire at Yadav's office. Three people were injured, and one, Baljeet, later died from his injuries. A relative of Baljeet suggested that tensions over liquor contracts may have motivated the attack. Tekchand was arrested near Najafgarh, and another suspect, also named Mohit, was captured in Jhajjar. The investigation into the murder continues.
