Murkowski claims Republicans fear backlash from Trump, Musk
Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska, has expressed concerns about her colleagues' fear of speaking out against President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk. She believes many Republicans are silent because they worry about being "taken down" or facing primary challenges. Murkowski stated that this fear has led to a lack of criticism within the party. She emphasized the importance of standing up and voicing concerns. Recently, Trump targeted Republican Rep. Thomas Massie for opposing a Trump-backed funding resolution. Murkowski also discussed the Trump administration’s approach to federal employees, which she finds disturbing. While she supports efforts to reduce the workforce, she believes it should be done respectfully. She stressed that public servants are essential to the economy and should not be viewed as adversaries. Additionally, she criticized the administration for ignoring a court order related to deportations, explaining that due process must be followed, even for those accused of serious crimes. This disregard for the courts, she warned, undermines trust in the justice system. Addressing foreign policy, Murkowski noted tensions with Canada and pointed out the oddity of good relations with Russia while fighting with Canada over tariffs. She recognizes that many in Alaska support Trump, having voted for him in the last election. Murkowski is preparing for her reelection campaign in 2028. Despite facing criticism for her views, she remains committed to her principles, stating she will not compromise her integrity.
