Musk's email report request causes federal inbox overflow
Elon Musk's request for federal workers to email him five bullet points about their weekly work is causing problems. Many employees are getting bounce-back messages, indicating the inbox is full and cannot accept new emails. This initiative is part of Musk's effort to make the government more efficient and reduce its budget. Workers were asked to submit their updates to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), but the high volume of emails has led to delivery issues. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) acknowledged the problem and advised employees to use a different email address to send their reports. The OPM and HHS have not yet commented on the situation. Musk has faced criticism for this new requirement. Some officials in former President Donald Trump's administration suggested employees ignore it due to security concerns. Musk warned that workers could face consequences if they don’t respond. Since the initiative began in late February, fewer than half of federal workers have participated, with about 1 million responding. There are mixed messages from agencies about whether staff should comply with Musk's request. To address the issues, NASA has introduced an app for workers to send their submissions securely, instead of using email. This change comes as the government is also experiencing job cuts, with some workers being offered buyouts or facing layoffs. The Trump administration has been cutting down on various agencies and programs. Trump recently mentioned plans to stop these job cuts soon, expressing satisfaction with the current reductions made under Musk's program.
