The crime took place in July 2022 in Halepura village, where the two had been in a relationship for about 20 years. Mahadevanayaka became angry three months before the murder. He accused the woman of seeing other men, despite supporting her financially. After a quarrel, she filed a police complaint. The police tried to resolve their issues but did not take further action. Feeling resentful, Mahadevanayaka decided to kill her. He bought a machete for ₹520. On July 29, 2022, he attacked her while she was leaving her house to buy milk. Her son and daughter-in-law tried to help, but he threatened them with the machete. After an investigation, police charged him with murder and threats. The prosecutor presented evidence during the trial, showing that Mahadevanayaka was guilty. The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment until natural death. The case was handled by Inspector Lakshmikant Talwar, who ensured witnesses were present at the trial.
