n8n secures $60M for AI-driven workflow automation
n8n, a startup based in Berlin, has raised €55 million (approximately $60 million) to further develop its AI-powered workflow automation platform. This funding boosts its valuation to around €250 million ($270 million). The company has seen significant growth since pivoting toward AI in 2022, with revenues increasing fivefold and doubling in just the last two months. Currently, n8n serves over 3,000 enterprise customers and around 200,000 active users, which includes both free and paid accounts. The funds will help the startup invest in its technology and expand its market presence, especially in the U.S., which houses a major portion of its user base. Highland Europe leads this latest funding round, with contributions from HV Capital and previous investors such as Sequoia and Felicis. Sequoia initially funded n8n in its early days back in 2020. n8n was founded in 2019 and gained traction among developers seeking low-code and no-code solutions for automation. It has a strong reputation for adhering to "fair code," a concept that compensates open-source creators when their work is commercialized. This approach has helped n8n build a community of over 70,000 followers on GitHub. The integration of AI, especially generative AI, has allowed n8n to simplify automation processes. Its founder, Jan Oberhauser, has noted that users can now create workflows using natural language instructions instead of lengthy code. Users can state commands like "get information from X and send it to Y," making the tool more accessible. Although there was a slow initial uptake of n8n's AI features, interest surged last year due to growing discussions about AI in coding. This interest has translated into higher user adoption and investment appeal. Currently, approximately 75% of n8n's customers are utilizing the newly built AI tools, showing the platform's growing relevance in today’s tech landscape.
