Nagaland University launches undergraduate Basic Sciences course
Nagaland University is set to introduce a new undergraduate course in Basic Sciences starting in the academic year 2025-26. This is a significant development as Nagaland University is the only Central University in Nagaland and the 13th in India. The program will begin with three- and four-year undergraduate options in subjects such as Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Zoology. A new Multidisciplinary Research Centre will also be established, enhancing the offerings in Basic Sciences over the coming years. In addition to the undergraduate courses, plans include integrated postgraduate programs and PhD courses in both sciences and social sciences. Admission into these programs will start with a capacity for 50 students across the five disciplines. To qualify for the undergraduate and integrated postgraduate programs, students must achieve a first-class score (60% or higher) in their previous academic records up to class 12. They also need a valid score from the CUET (UG) exam in their relevant field. The undergraduate program aims to develop a wide range of skills in students, including critical thinking and problem-solving. Students will have the opportunity to change their major within similar fields at the end of their first year. Nagaland University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1989, receiving presidential assent on October 20 of that year.
