timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The fire services department in Nagaland has issued a warning about the dangers of forest burning. This activity is often caused by hunters, campers, and others during the dry and windy season. Currently, a large wildfire is affecting several areas in Wokha. The department pointed out that despite efforts from local volunteers and support from authorities, forest burning continues. Since the beginning of the year, Nagaland has reported 114 forest fires. Kohima district has the highest number, with 67 cases, raising serious concerns. Officials noted that they can only respond to fires that threaten human settlements. They have frequently reminded the public about the ban on forest fires and their negative impacts on the environment. The department is asking villagers to help identify those responsible for starting fires and to report them. A recent wildfire in Wokha began on March 17 and has spread to various nearby locations. It has affected several areas, including the Humtso-Wokha road. However, the fire in the helipad area at Vankhosung has been extinguished. Wokha's deputy commissioner, Vineet Kumar, stated that strong winds have complicated efforts to control the fire, which is spreading rapidly.
