Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam reserves reports 76 tigers
On March 21, 2025, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan released the Annual Report on tigers in the Nagarjuna Sagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve. This event coincided with the International Day of Forests. The report reveals that the tiger population in the reserve has grown to 76. This number does not include tiger cubs. The increase is attributed to better protection, scientific monitoring, and ongoing conservation efforts. The report also highlighted a strong prey base and improved habitat connectivity. However, several challenges remain. Habitat fragmentation, human-wildlife conflict, and climate change continue to threaten tiger survival. The state aims to boost its green cover to 50% and strengthen tiger corridors while restoring degraded habitats and encouraging community involvement in conservation. Additionally, 50 Nagaravanams, which are urban green spaces designed to mimic natural forests, have been established. Eleven more are planned for the next year, and 12 additional proposals are being considered. A new Nagaravanam is also under development in Pithapuram.
