NASA awards SpaceX $843 million to deorbit International Space Station

Summary: NASA has awarded SpaceX an $843 million contract to safely deorbit the International Space Station (ISS) by 2030. The ISS, launched in 1998, has hosted astronauts from five countries and conducted over 3,300 experiments. After its operational life ends, SpaceX's deorbit vehicle will guide the ISS back to Earth at over 17,000 mph, landing in the ocean. Future commercial space stations will replace the ISS.
