NASA selects two proposals for new astrophysics missions to study space light
NASA has selected two proposals for new astrophysics missions to study X-ray and far-infrared light from space. Each team will receive $5 million for a 12-month study, with a mission expected to be chosen in 2026. These missions will be part of a new class called Probe Explorers, aimed at bridging the gap between larger and smaller missions. The cost for each mission is capped at $1 billion, excluding launch expenses. The selected proposals include an X-ray imaging observatory to study black holes and galaxy evolution, and a far-infrared telescope to explore cosmic phenomena. Both missions align with recommendations from a recent scientific survey.
