Navarrete to defend WBO title in San Diego May 10

Emanuel Navarrete will defend his WBO junior lightweight title against Charly Suarez on May 10 in San Diego. This fight will be featured as the main event on ESPN. Navarrete, from Mexico, is currently ranked as the No. 1 junior lightweight and will be defending his title for the fourth time. He recently returned to this weight class after a sixth-round knockout victory over Oscar Valdez in December. Before that, he suffered a loss at 135 pounds against Denys Berinchyk. Charly Suarez is the top-rated contender for the WBO and has an undefeated record of 18 wins with 10 knockouts. This fight will be his first challenge for a world title and will mark his debut at the world-class level. He is 36 years old and hails from the Philippines. Additionally, Zaur Abdullaev will face Raymond Muratalla on the undercard for the IBF interim lightweight title. This fight is important as the winner will have to face Vasily Lomachenko for the IBF title. Abdullaev has a record of 20-1 and Muratalla is undefeated at 22-0.
