A former Navy contractor has pleaded guilty to bribery in San Diego. Philip Flores, who previously owned a defense company, admitted to providing gifts to a Navy employee. This employee, James Soriano, helped Flores secure contracts worth millions. Flores, 53, gave Soriano expensive meals and tickets to major sports events, costing over $18,000. These events included the 2019 Super Bowl and a 2018 World Series game. In return, Soriano assisted Flores’ company, Intellipeak Solutions Inc., in winning government contracts. The U.S. government paid Intellipeak more than $16 million for various tasks. The bribery scheme allowed the company to make profits between $550,000 and $1.5 million. Flores is set to be sentenced in June. Soriano has also pleaded guilty to federal charges. He is waiting for his own sentencing and has previously accepted gifts from another contractor. Cambridge International Systems Inc. and its former executive vice president have also pleaded guilty in connection with this case.
