The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the Philippines has arrested a vlogger from Cebu for spreading false content about President Marcos. Lawmakers praised the NBI for its actions against Wendelyn Magalso, who admitted to manipulating videos that suggested Marcos wanted to legalize illegal drugs. House Assistant Majority Leader Amparo Maria Zamora highlighted that the case shows the dangers of online deception. Zamora said, “Freedom of expression is not freedom to deceive” and warned that creators could face serious consequences for spreading false information. Magalso allegedly altered a news post to mislead viewers and admitted to doing it to make money. In addition to the vlogger's case, Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong commended the NBI for filing charges against four civil registrar employees in Davao. These employees were implicated in issuing fake birth certificates to Chinese nationals. Adiong urged further investigation, suggesting there might be a larger network behind these fraudulent activities. The NBI has charged the Davao employees with multiple offenses, including falsification of documents and corruption. Adiong expressed concern over Filipinos helping foreigners with fraudulent activities, calling it "treasonous behavior." He has called for a review of birth records issued in recent years in areas with many Chinese migrants. Adiong also urged checks on alien employment permits to prevent further fraud.
