NCRB 2023 report delayed, release expected soon
The Union home ministry has announced that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2023 is not yet released but will be available soon. The ministry shared this information in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Minister of State for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, explained that the data validation for the 2023 report is in the final stages. He provided this update in response to a question from Sagarika Ghosh of the Trinamool Congress. The NCRB regularly publishes reports on crime, accidental deaths, and prison statistics. Kumar noted that data is collected from 89 sources, which include 36 states and Union Territories, along with 53 metropolitan cities. He mentioned that each report compiles data from the previous calendar year, starting the collection process only after that year ends. The report for 2022 has already been published. However, there is a notable delay in the 2023 report. Typically, these reports are released by October each year. The road transport ministry also has not yet provided its report on accidents for 2023. Sources indicate that the ministry is currently working on reconciling data submitted by police with a broader tracking system.
