NCST questions Hazaribag officials over Birhor tribal deaths

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has sent notices to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Hazaribag. This is due to the deaths of two Birhor tribals earlier this year. The victims, Durga Birhor and Kirney Birhor, lived in Keredari Tanda. They died reportedly from administrative negligence. The NCST noted that timely medical help could have saved their lives if the district administration and police had acted more swiftly. Both the DC, Nancy Sahay, and the SP, Arvind Kumar Singh, must respond to the allegations. They need to explain why proper medical care was not provided to the tribals, who were seriously ill. As of now, there have been no comments from either official.
