Nearly 500,000 evacuated as Super Typhoon Pepito approaches Luzon
Nearly 500,000 people have been evacuated in the Bicol region of the Philippines as Super Typhoon Pepito approaches Luzon. An additional 65,000 residents in Eastern Visayas have been advised to seek shelter. The typhoon is expected to bring severe winds and heavy rainfall. Pepito, with winds reaching 195 kilometers per hour, may make landfall in several provinces, including Catanduanes and parts of Aurora and Quezon. Authorities warn of life-threatening storm surges and widespread flooding, particularly in vulnerable areas. In response, local governments have closed schools and businesses, and implemented curfews. Sea travel has been suspended, stranding thousands at various ports. Evacuations are ongoing, with many seeking refuge in schools, malls, and other facilities.
