Nearly one in ten in England may have long Covid
A new study shows that nearly one in ten people in England may have long Covid. This condition leaves some individuals with ongoing health problems after they recover from Covid-19. Researchers at the University of Southampton analyzed data from about 750,000 patients. They found that 4.8 percent of participants confirmed they suffer from long Covid. An additional 9.1 percent think they might have it but are uncertain. Long Covid can cause serious symptoms, including fatigue, shortness of breath, and "brain fog." These issues can disrupt daily life and prevent people from working. The study, published in the journal Health Expectations, highlights the ongoing effects of the pandemic on public health in the UK. Thousands are unable to work because of their symptoms, which also hampers economic growth. Rates of long Covid appear to be higher in poorer areas of the country.
