Nebraska features record number of ballot measures including competing abortion proposals
Nebraska will have a record number of ballot measures on November 6, including two competing abortion proposals. This is the first time since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade that such measures will appear on the same ballot. Initiative 434 seeks to enshrine Nebraska's current 12-week abortion ban in the state constitution, while Initiative 439 aims to guarantee the right to abortion until viability. Only one of these measures can be adopted based on which receives more votes. In addition to the abortion measures, the ballot includes initiatives to legalize medical marijuana and a referendum on a new law regarding taxpayer funding. Legal challenges could affect the marijuana initiatives even if they pass.
