Negotiations on climate financing face tough challenges at COP29
Countries at the COP29 climate summit are entering a challenging phase in negotiations over climate financing for developing nations. The focus is on determining the amount and sources of funding needed to address climate change. Frustration is growing as discussions approach a deadline on Friday. Developing nations, led by Uganda's Adonia Ayebare, demand $1.3 trillion annually, while wealthier nations have proposed significantly lower amounts, such as $200 billion to $300 billion. The European Union has not finalized its position on funding. EU climate commissioner Wopke Hoekstra stated that discussions on specific amounts will only occur after structural details are clarified.
