Neil Gourley named captain for Great Britain in China
Neil Gourley has been named the team captain for Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the World Indoor Athletics Championships. The event will take place in Nanjing, China, from March 21 to 23, 2025. Gourley is a 30-year-old Scottish runner who specializes in the 1500 meters. He recently finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships and previously won a silver medal in the 2023 event. In February, he set a new British indoor record for the 1000 meters in Birmingham. Leading a team of 11 athletes, Gourley expressed his pride in being chosen as captain. He emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for his teammates. "I hope I can inspire that environment at the very least and lead by example," he said. Gourley noted the high level of competition at the World Championships. He believes that mutual respect among team members will play a significant role in their performance. The team looks forward to a successful championship in Nanjing.
