The Neja Mela in Moradabad has been stopped due to protests from Hindu organizations. This follows a similar controversy in Sambhal. The fair takes place each year in Thaunla village on the border of Sambhal. District officials have not granted permission for the Neja Mela in Moradabad. They stated that this decision is part of maintaining consistent policies across the region. The Bilari sub divisional magistrate, VK Singh, explained that Hindu groups have requested a ban on the fair, citing its connections to historical figures associated with conflicts at religious sites. The local village head also opposed the Neja Mela in a recent community meeting. As of now, no applications have been submitted for the fair to take place. The sub divisional magistrate emphasized that such events cannot happen without official approval. In Sambhal, the situation is tense. Five members of the Neja Committee have been legally bound with sureties of ₹5 lakh each. The Neja fairs are scheduled for March 25, 26, and 27, but permissions have already been denied for events in Shahbazpur Sura Nagla and Khetapur as well. Authorities are on high alert. ASP Shrish Chandra confirmed that any preparations for the Neja fair have been stopped. Security measures are in place to ensure public safety, and any disturbances will be dealt with harshly.
