Neso says Britain can achieve green energy goals with improved planning
Britain's National Energy System Operator (Neso) has stated that the country's goal of achieving a clean electricity system by 2030 is "credible" if the planning process is improved. The operator suggests that with urgent action, Britain could become a net exporter of green electricity by the decade's end.
Neso's report highlights the need for significant growth in regional power networks and high-voltage transmission infrastructure. It emphasizes that the pace of development must increase dramatically compared to the last ten years to meet Labour's decarbonization targets.
The report outlines two pathways to generate more low-carbon electricity than consumed. One focuses on expanding renewable energy, while the other emphasizes nuclear power and carbon capture technology. Both scenarios require substantial increases in onshore wind and solar capacity by 2030.
