Netflix and Crunchyroll dominate global anime streaming market
The global anime streaming market is rapidly growing, projected to reach $12.5 billion by 2030, up from $3.7 billion in 2023. Netflix and Crunchyroll dominate this market, controlling over 80% of international anime streaming. Crunchyroll's subscriber base has tripled in three years, reaching over 15 million, while Netflix has expanded its anime catalog to about 240 titles. Despite Netflix's growth, Crunchyroll remains the leading platform for anime in the U.S. Both companies are expected to coexist and benefit from the expanding anime market. Crunchyroll is profitable and projected to generate significant operating profit for Sony Pictures, while Netflix continues to enhance its anime offerings.
