Netflix's Marvel shows lacked high production quality
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has shared why the Marvel shows on the platform often seemed low-budget. In an interview, he explained that the production team at Marvel was separate from Disney and operated with a tight budget. Sarandos noted that each time Netflix wanted to enhance the quality of the shows, it was a challenge. He described the relationship with Marvel as being based on different goals. Netflix aimed to create high-quality television, while Marvel focused on keeping costs down. He also mentioned that before adding elements to improve the shows, they often had to argue for more funding. Sarandos believes that when partnerships align incentives, they tend to produce better content. Netflix started working with Marvel in 2013, producing popular series like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. While fans enjoyed the stories, the shows lacked the impressive visuals found in Marvel blockbuster films like The Avengers.
