Netflix is set to release a new sci-fi anime titled "Moonrise" on April 10, 2025. The anime comes from WIT Studio, known for its popular series. It was showcased at AnimeJapan 2025, a major event for anime fans. "Moonrise" was originally scheduled for release in 2024, but it faced production delays. The anime is directed by Masashi Koizuka, who also worked on the "One Piece" remake. The story is written by Tou Ubukata, recognized for past works like "Psycho-Pass." A new trailer has been released, featuring the theme song "Daijobu" by AiNA THE END. The plot of "Moonrise" takes place in a near-future world where a global AI network controls a loosely organized government. This AI runs a project that sends criminals and pollutants to the moon, where they live in poverty. The main character, Jacob Shadow, becomes embroiled in a terrorist attack and loses his family to a rebel group on the moon. Seeking revenge, he joins Earth's military but eventually confronts surprising truths about his enemies. The voice of Jacob will be provided by Chiaki Koboyashiki, while Yūto Uemura will voice his friend, Phil Ashe. More details about the rest of the cast are yet to be announced.
