New airport in Phuket to handle 22.5 million passengers
A new airport, Andaman International Airport, will be built in Phuket, Thailand, at a cost of £171 million. This airport aims to ease congestion at the existing Phuket Airport, which is nearing its capacity of 12.5 million passengers. The new airport will feature two runways and handle up to 43 flights per hour, accommodating 22.5 million passengers annually. Construction is set to begin in 2027, with an expected opening by 2032. Meanwhile, Phuket's main airport is expanding to increase its capacity to 18 million passengers per year. This expansion will cost £138 million and is expected to start in 2026.
