New app launched to streamline Malayalam film production
A new app called "Behind the Scene" has been launched to help streamline film production in Malayalam cinema. The app was created by Shameer Sharafudeen and Renjith Raghunathan from Thiruvananthapuram. It focuses on managing all phases of film production: pre-production, production, and post-production. Shameer and Renjith worked on this app after selling their web development company in 2017. They began developing the app in 2023 and tested it with a web series before its full release with the film "Alappuzha Gymkhana," which will come out next month. Other films using the app include "Padakkuthira" and "Night Riders." The app allows various film crew members, including directors and costume designers, to collaborate efficiently. Once the script is ready, it helps assistant directors analyze scripts and manage crucial details like locations and costumes. This organization helps avoid mistakes and keeps everyone on the same page. Shameer, who dreamed of being a filmmaker, realized the chaos in film production while working as an assistant director. He knows that the job of an assistant director is challenging and that small errors can disrupt schedules. The app simplifies scheduling by creating shooting schedules and managing reports for editors. The app had a soft launch at the International Film Festival of India and received positive feedback from industry professionals. Veteran editor Ranjan Abraham praised its usefulness, saying it saves time and keeps everyone informed. Other filmmakers are showing interest, and the development team is open to suggestions for improvements. "Behind the Scene" is available on iOS, Android, and the web.
