French director Alain Chabat has launched a new 3D animated series based on the 1961 comic "Asterix and the Big Fight." This series will have five episodes and is set to premiere on Netflix on April 30. It follows the adventures of Asterix and his friend Obelix as they face challenges from the Romans and within their own village. Chabat, who previously directed "Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra," presented the series at a festival in Lille. The first three episodes were shown to an enthusiastic audience. The series begins with a flashback to Asterix and Obelix's childhood. It then moves to 50 BC, where their village is threatened by Roman forces and internal conflicts. The village druid, Getafix, is in trouble after accidentally being crushed by Obelix, losing the secret potion recipe. Chabat expressed his enjoyment of "The Big Fight," highlighting themes of invasion and resistance. He voices Asterix himself, while actor Gilles Lellouche provides the voice for Obelix. Lellouche previously portrayed Obelix in a live-action film that drew 4.6 million viewers in 2023. Chabat initially intended to create a feature-length animated film but opted for a series format to explore more characters. Asterix has a vast global reach, with around 400 million books sold in 130 languages. A new album of Asterix stories is also expected to be released in October.
