She has deep ties to the community, as her family previously owned businesses in Waterloo. Her father ran a lending library in the town for many years. This is her first venture into hospitality after her husband retired from the video game industry. The bar aims to foster a strong sense of community, similar to the friendly vibe of local bars she enjoyed in her youth. Vanessa and her husband have been refurbishing the space since last November, focusing on creating a social environment where service is a priority. The interior of Vanessa's Bar features a speakeasy design with rich red and gold furnishings. It will include a DJ booth, a sound system for live music, and various seating areas for different moods. The menu will offer a selection of small plates, including lamb koftas, grilled halloumi, and chicken wings, along with a variety of drinks, especially cocktails. Vanessa wants patrons to feel at home, emphasizing personal connections and quality service.
