New Berlin woman dies in hit-and-run on Interstate 72

A 35-year-old woman from New Berlin, Illinois, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Interstate 72 late Saturday night. The crash happened around 11:13 p.m., east of the New Berlin exit. According to the Illinois State Police, the woman was struck while walking on the interstate. It is not clear why she was on the highway, and there is no description of the vehicle involved. The eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed for about six hours as officials investigated the scene. The identity of the woman has not been released pending notification of her family. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, and the investigation is ongoing.
